Confluent Senior Living and Harbor Retirement Associates Celebrate Grand Opening of Shaker Heights Community

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OhioConfluent Senior Living and Harbor Retirement Associates (HRA) have completed HarborChase of Shaker Heights, a 106,698-square-foot assisted living and memory care community in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Representing the first project of its kind to break ground in this city within the past 20 years, the community addresses the unmet demand among seniors for this housing option. The three-story community will offer 108 licensed senior living apartments, comprised of 80 apartments for assisted living and 28 for memory care residents.

On Thursday, May 18th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm EDT, the project partners will celebrate the completion in a grand opening celebration open to employees, stakeholders, local dignitaries, and media.

HarborChase of Shaker Heights is the project partners’ second senior living property in Ohio and ninth joint venture across six states. Developed intentionally within the specifications of Confluent Senior Living’s Whole Health Standard, HarborChase of Shaker Heights will deliver quality, holistic designs that incorporate the latest protections for residents’ physical health, promote features essential to mental health and place a strong emphasis on hospitality, safety and comfort.

“HarborChase of Shaker Heights fulfills a regional need for a high-quality, full service and amenity rich senior living community,” said Matt Derrick, vice president of development at Confluent Senior Living. “Since project inception, our team and our partners at HRA have recognized the meaningful value of this location and we look forward to future residents, their families, and the employees of HarborChase enjoying the many benefits that this community has to offer.”

Situated on nearly three acres at 17000 Van Aken Boulevard, HarborChase of Shaker Heights is located within one of Cleveland’s most affluent suburbs, just eight miles from downtown. The project is also near the RTA light rail, which connects residents of Shaker Heights to downtown Cleveland, creating a convenient transportation option for families and friends of loved ones who will reside at HarborChase of Shaker Heights. Just one mile east of the project site is a redeveloped mixed-use, transit-oriented development, the Van Aken District, which provides multifamily residential offerings, retail, restaurants, as well as office space.

HarborChase communities focus on serving seniors by providing extensive amenity choices and award-winning hospitality. Accredited chefs prepare seasonal, farm-to-table selections daily in five on-site signature eateries, ranging from on-the-go casual fare to fine dining. Award-winning Harborchase life enrichment programs and highly trained professional care partners will deliver resident-focused care. Access to licensed nurses and a 24-hour care staff, concierge service, housekeeping, and daily transportation are included. Two large courtyards with outdoor firepits, a full-service bar, club room, activity rooms, fitness and wellness center, and a salon and spa with a full-time Director of Beautification will create an engaging lifestyle for all residents. The community also offers 84 on-site surface parking spots and 28 apartments feature balconies.

“HarborChase of Shaker Heights is truly a community worth celebrating. Not only will it offer a luxurious senior living experience unlike any other in the area, but it represents a significant investment in this region as it will create jobs and enhance community togetherness across generations,” said Charlie Jennings, chief development officer of HRA. “As we officially open the doors of this best-in-class senior living community, we look forward to introducing private and spacious apartment homes, first-class hospitality, exquisite fine dining and wide array of amenities. We are grateful for our longstanding partnership with Confluent Senior Living and their commitment to bringing HarborChase of Shaker Heights to life.”

Confluent Senior Living, a subsidiary of Denver-based real estate investment and development firm Confluent Development, serves as the project’s owner. HRA, a regional senior living development and management company based in Vero Beach, Florida, will manage HarborChase of Shaker Heights. The community represents Confluent Senior Living’s 23rd senior living development community in the nation.

The project’s design and architecture were led entirely by Ohio-based project partners to ensure the community is tailored to the needs of its local residents. RDL Architects, based out of Shaker Heights, was the architect on the project and Toledo-based The Douglas Company served as general contractor. Mannik Smith Group (MSG), also based in Shaker Heights, was the project’s civil engineer.
